Advocate for Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read programs receive federal funding from the U.S. Department
of Education. Annually, the ROR National Center asks members of Congress
for their support of an appropriations bill for Reach Out and Read.
The "Prescribe a Book Act" (PABA) S.1895 was recently introduced
in the U.S. Senate, legislation that is urgently needed to help restore
ROR's federal funding after two years of significant cuts. Forty US Senators
including both of Michigan Senators Levin and Stabenow have agreed to
co-sponsor this very important bill.
You can help Michigan programs by educating the Michigan Congressional
delegation about the importance of Reach Out and Read to your community
and the impact it is having on children's literacy and school readiness.
1) Write an email to your Congressional representative and the U.S.
Senators. Go to http://capwiz.com/ror/home/
2) Invite your Congressional representative to visit your ROR site and
be a guest reader. For assistance, contact Michele[at]reachoutandreadmich.org
3) Keep your local legislators informed about Reach Out and Read in
Michigan. Go to www.senate.mi.gov and www.house.mi.gov and click on find
your senator or representative to email them.
